Why I am Running for School Board in District 4
If Hamilton County wants better schools then a major change of direction is required.
Here is what I believe –
1) Our public schools have become government schools – my job will be to help the parents and teachers have more input, restoring the ‘public’ back into Public Schools.
2) Money is not the answer – proper spending of our tax dollars is. The School Board has a fiduciary responsibility to spend the taxpayer’s money wisely. When you believe money is the answer – you don’t work hard enough to find the real solution to the problems.
3) Spend more money in the classroom – at least 90% of the budget belongs there, where it does the most good. Currently less than 84% of the school budget is spent in the classroom. Give our teachers more money and more tools to do their jobs effectively.
4) We cannot move forward if we continue teaching to the lowest common denominator. We must give the students that want to advance the best opportunity to do so. For those students that just want to get by – give them the tools they need to enter the workplace and the opportunity to advance if they so choose.
5) If a learning environment isn’t safe, teachers can’t teach and students can’t learn. It is time for students and parents to accept personal responsibility for their actions.
6) The school board must operate transparently – no backroom deals. Put the School System check register online. No more arrogance or sense of elitism that many on this current school board have.
7) Every school in Hamilton County should be excellent
The Hamilton County school system has thrown our money down the drain with wasteful and improper spending, and what’s worse; they are not spending it on your children. It is being spent on administration and poor choices. I wholeheartedly back Tommy Kranz’s efforts to reform the School Board’s outrageous spending habits.
Why am I running for School Board? Because I am tired of complaining and not doing anything about it; it is our civic duty to give of ourselves at least one time in our lives to serve others. This is my time.
I am not a politician; I am not running for school board as a stepping stone to a political career. I am not politically correct and I will say and do what I think is necessary to make our school system better. I will make mistakes. I will try to correct my mistakes. I have no ties to any power structure in Hamilton County. I treat everyone with respect until they show that they don’t deserve it. I have run several successful small businesses and understand living within one’s means. I graduated from The University of Minnesota and am a retired member of the PGA.
I ask that you vote for a major change in the way the School Board operates this November 4th by voting for Gregg Juster in District 4. If you would like to help my candidacy in some way, please email me at greggjuster@gmail.com
